Family Man & Kentucky Native, Josh Stevenson, Knocks It Out of the Park with COLSA

Josh Stevenson’s Story

Recently, we sat down with Josh Stevenson, a Capture Manager here at COLSA. Beginning at COLSA just over a year ago, Josh works to develop the pipeline of new opportunities, looking for how our capabilities align with various Government customer needs to move forward and win new opportunities.

Remembering His Kentucky Roots While Flourishing in Alabama

Originally growing up in Kentucky, Josh moved to Alabama at just 14 years old, but to this day feels like Kentucky built a large part of him. After living in Huntsville, he learned about COLSA in high school, having opportunities to interact and work with some employees throughout the years. When he discovered an open position at COLSA last summer, he jumped at the opportunity to join the team and culture he had heard great things about.

Josh studied Finance and Economics at The University of Alabama but started his career as a Technical Recruiter. This experience allowed him to grasp an understanding of how to develop relationships, a skill that has carried him to his career today.

“Someone once told me that I have the ability to make people feel like they have known me forever. Not just putting on a facade to build relationships with your colleagues, but really getting to know people and understanding who they are in order to help them achieve their goals.”

Josh has been married to his wife, Meghan for 16 years, and also has two children. He relishes the opportunities to have family time at his daughter’s dance competitions and is thankful to work for a company that is so family focused. He describes that COLSA leadership has a unique level of care about each employee’s personal lives.

“Our tagline is ‘Family of Professionals’ and to see that in action here has been great. As a busy husband and father, with young kids involved in numerous activities, it means a lot to see the amount of care put in place at every level.”

Fulfilling a Bucket List Item through COLSA

For 15 years beginning at the age of 5, Josh played baseball and grew an immense love for the game. Though he no longer plays, he is still a huge baseball fan and even has season tickets for the Rocket City Trash Pandas. When he was asked by COLSA to throw the first pitch at a recent Trash Pandas game they sponsored, it meant a lot.

“It really was one of those bucket list items for me, and it was a special experience to not only represent COLSA, but also to have that moment with my family and to give them a special memory to look back on.”

Josh attributes a large part of his growth over the past year to the people and culture around him, noting that he now works with professionals that he has looked up to for a long time. COLSA has allowed him to grow in a unique way, providing resources to go above and beyond in the work he does every day.

His advice for those looking for their next journey?

“Take the chance, and do not be afraid to ask questions that will provide information on a company’s values and how they align with your goals. Draw conclusions from the answers you get in an interview, and really take the time to dig deep into what an employer is looking for.”
